A week of Houthi attacks has threatened Saudi oil and rattled markets

It’s been a week since Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels stormed down the Red Sea coast, threatening Saudi Arabia’s oil exports and reigniting Yemen’s 12-year civil war. Their advance has pushed up global fuel prices and given Iran more leverage as the U.S. has started to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Some 125,000 Yemenis have fled their homes, and the humanitarian situation has deteriorated. The Houthis are demanding that the Saudis lift a long-running blockade on rebel-held territories.

The rebels also appear to be eyeing oil-rich areas in central and eastern Yemen as they battle Saudi-backed forces there.
