Amazon expanded Alexa for Shopping on October 29 with tools to edit shopping lists and gift registries, manage recurring deliveries and answer billing questions. The features are rolling out to customers in the United States, The Verge reported. The assistant appears in Amazon’s app and website.

TechCrunch reported that the update adds more than 100 shopping-related capabilities ahead of the holiday season. Alongside list management, the changes cover delivery instructions, questions about Prime and Audible subscriptions, and payment issues.

What Alexa for Shopping can now change

Shoppers can ask the assistant to create or edit a shopping list and move items between lists and gift registries, according to The Verge. Amazon’s example prompts include creating a new shopping list and checking what remains on a wedding registry. TechCrunch reported that users can also view a list’s contents.

For recurring deliveries, the assistant can pause orders or change their schedule. TechCrunch gave the example of shifting an item from monthly delivery to every three months. Users can also update delivery instructions, including an address or drop-off details, the reports said.

The assistant can answer questions about unrecognized charges and refunds, The Verge reported. TechCrunch also described answers to billing and payment questions, as well as questions about Prime and Audible subscriptions.

How the new controls fit Amazon’s shopping assistant

Alexa for Shopping appears beside the search bar in Amazon’s app and website, The Verge reported. It already offered price alerts, product comparisons and the ability to buy products automatically when their prices fell below a chosen level. The new features add controls for lists and deliveries alongside those product-finding tools.

The Verge reported that Amazon has continued expanding the assistant while resisting third-party shopping agents from Meta and Perplexity. TechCrunch said Amazon has also introduced product and offer notifications this year. The Verge described the latest features as rolling out to US customers.

Amazon said the number of people using its agentic features has grown eightfold since the start of the year, according to TechCrunch. The company also said more than 400 million consumers used Alexa for shopping over the past 12 months. Those company figures describe broader use of its shopping tools, rather than adoption of the newly added controls.
