The Browser Company said on October 22 that it will shut down its Arc browser on December 22, 2026, ending account access for users as it shifts its attention to Dia. The company says Arc users can transfer their browsing data to the newer browser, according to 9to5Mac and Engadget.

The date gives Arc users two months to prepare for the loss of access. XDA Developers reported that the shutdown will happen in stages: mobile AI features and tab syncing are scheduled to end on November 23, followed by Arc access on Windows 11 and macOS and all Arc accounts on December 22. XDA also reported that people can no longer create new Arc accounts.

What Arc users can move to Dia

The Browser Company says passwords, bookmarks, extensions and browsing history will transfer automatically to Dia, Engadget reported. 9to5Mac said the company's transfer list also includes Spaces, Folders and Tab Groups. These are the company's stated migration plans; users relying on those features have until the shutdown to decide how to handle their Arc accounts.

Engadget reported that the company is presenting Dia's additional AI features as optional, addressing users who may want a browser without using them. Dia has a chatbot that the company says can draw on context from multiple open tabs. Engadget also described features for summarizing emails and YouTube videos and compiling a daily brief from calendars, inboxes and web links.

Why Arc is being retired

The Browser Company had already moved its development focus away from Arc before setting a shutdown date. XDA reported that the company said Arc development had ended in May 2025, but had not then specified when the browser would close. Engadget reported that the company has been concentrating resources on Dia, which it introduced to Arc members in 2025.

XDA reported that the company says Dia was built to meet current security standards and that its engineering and security teams will focus on the newer browser. That is the company's account of the shift, rather than an independent assessment of Dia's security. For current Arc users, the immediate practical dates are November 23 for the scheduled feature changes and December 22 for the planned end of account access.
