Bateman latest injury for Toronto as Blue Jays near elimination in Baltimore

Toronto’s last-ditch push for a playoff spot took another significant blow when the Blue Jays lost 4-3 to the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore is also on the verge of elimination. Blue Jays rookie outfielder Brett Bateman hurt his hip making a sliding catch in the second inning. Bateman held onto the ball to retire Baltimore’s Rece Hinds, but his slide left a divot in the ground, and he rolled over awkwardly after making the catch. Bateman was able to walk off the field, but very slowly.

The Blue Jays were already dealing with health issues for Dylan Cease and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. X-rays on Bateman were negative.
