House panel recommends contempt for billionaire in Epstein probe

The House Oversight Committee has voted to recommend holding billionaire Leon Black in contempt of Congress in the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein. The panel voted unanimously Tuesday after Black refused to appear this month for a sworn deposition and produce requested nondisclosure agreements. Black sued the panel, asking a federal court to block the subpoenas. Black is the former chief executive of a private equity firm that lawmakers said funneled millions to Epstein.

Black's attorneys issued a scathing response saying the committee’s action is a “complete abomination." They said Black had no knowledge of Epstein's “heinous conduct.” They also sought a congressional review of the committee chairman's tactics.
