John Goodman has joined the cast of The Beast in Me for its second season at Netflix, Variety has learned. Goodman will play Jack, the father of Aggie Wiggs, the author portrayed by Claire Danes. Netflix announced the second season in September 2026, with Danes set to return.

The casting brings a veteran actor to the series. Goodman is an 11-time Emmy nominee, including seven nominations for his starring role in the sitcom Roseanne, and won the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. He will next be seen in Season 3 of HBO’s The Last of Us.

Deadline reports that Goodman will play Aggie’s father, a character it says is believed to be a long-time con artist. However, Netflix has not confirmed plot details for the second season, and exact plot details are being kept under wraps, according to Variety.

The second season will see Season 1 showrunner Howard Gordon serve as co-showrunner alongside Season 1 executive producer Daniel Pearle. Claire Danes will again executive produce in addition to starring. The series is produced by 20th Television.

The Beast in Me was originally announced as a limited series when it was picked up in 2024. Netflix and the show's team began exploring a second season and opened a writers’ room earlier this year. Season 1 star Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series at this year's awards, and the series also won an Emmy for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special (original dramatic score).

Gabe Rotter is the creator and an executive producer of The Beast in Me. Among the Season 1 executive producers is Antonio Campos, who directed half of the first season's episodes. Goodman is represented by Gersh and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
