Nigeria's parliament suspends South Africa visits

Nigeria's parliament is suspending official visits to South Africa indefinitely over anti-immigrant protests targeting Africans. Violent protests erupted earlier this year, forcing thousands of migrants to leave and causing diplomatic tensions. On Friday, the clerk to Nigeria’s National Assembly expressed concern over reports of Nigerians being killed, injured and displaced.

South Africa has long attracted foreign nationals due to its wealth and opportunities, but foreigners have faced xenophobic violence. In June, two Nigerians were killed during anti-migrant violence. Almost 90,000 people have been repatriated or deported since the tensions began.
