Nottinghamshire Police are seeking a man and a woman after an officer was shot in the foot on Angel Row in Nottingham city centre at about 4.50am on Sunday, 18 October. The officer was in stable condition in hospital, according to a PA Wire report published by the Evening Standard. Police said the two people fled after the officer approached them.

Police have recovered a firearm and launched an investigation to trace the pair. The force has not identified them or said what led to the encounter. Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas said police had no information suggesting a wider threat to the public.

Angel Row cordoned off as police investigate

A police cordon remained around Angel Row on Sunday. The Guardian reported that forensic investigators were working inside it that morning, in an area of the city centre occupied by pubs, bars and takeaways. The Evening Standard reported that the road, which also has shops and restaurants, remained closed and that a heightened police presence would continue.

Rukas called the shooting a deeply shocking incident that happened in front of members of the public. She thanked people who came to the officer’s aid before additional emergency responders arrived and said the officer remained in hospital. Her thoughts, she said, were with the officer’s family, friends and colleagues.

Police appeal for information about the shooting

Police asked anyone with information to call 101 and quote incident 106 of 18 October 2026. Rukas said even a small piece of information could help investigators as they worked to find the two people who fled. The reports did not establish their identities or whether police had located them since the appeal.

Nottingham East MP Nadia Whittome said on Sunday that her thoughts were with the injured officer and his family and wished him a full recovery. The Police Federation of England and Wales also sent its best wishes, describing the shooting as a reminder of the dangers officers face while protecting the public.
