Orioles pitcher Shane Baz leaves start after getting hit in arm by line drive

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Shane Baz has left his start against the New York Mets after getting hit on his pitching arm by Bo Bichette’s 105.1 mph line drive in the fifth inning. X-rays were negative, Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said following his team’s 7-5 victory in 11 innings. The ball caromed off Baz’s upper arm and into shallow left field. Baz immediately crouched and shook the glove off his left hand before gripping his right arm.

Albernaz and an athletic trainer came out to check on the 27-year-old starter, who tried to throw a warmup pitch but sailed it to the backstop. Baz immediately walked off the mound and into the dugout.
