Over 500,000 Russian troops killed in Ukraine since Moscow invasion

A senior British defense official says more than half a million Russian troops have been killed in Ukraine since Moscow's full-scale invasion in February 2022. The dead are part of 1.5 million Russian casualties, according to the U.K.’s Defense Staff. Moscow’s army is struggling to make headway on the battlefield. Western officials say the Russian rate of advance has slowed significantly this year. Meanwhile, Russian drones targeted gas stations in Kyiv for a second straight day Friday.

Ukrainian officials say it’s an effort to rattle civilians. Ukraine is urgently trying to improve its air defenses.
