PAC’s death at 40: why tributes span AEW and WWE

PAC, the British wrestler WWE fans knew as Neville, has died at 40, prompting tributes across AEW and WWE. All Elite Wrestling announced Benjamin Satterley’s death late on September 27 in the United States, according to Associated Press reporting; colleagues have since remembered both his performances and their friendships with him.

PAC and Neville were the same wrestler

In its announcement, AEW described Satterley as a native of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, who began wrestling in 2004. He went on to perform for organisations around the world, building a career that the company remembered for his ‘innovative high-flying moves and incredible in-ring ability’.

Satterley signed with AEW in 2019, the company said. POST Wrestling records that he became the inaugural AEW All-Atlantic Champion and held the World Trios Championship as part of Death Triangle. AEW’s statement offered condolences to his family, friends and fans.

What Tony Khan, Triple H and fellow wrestlers said

Khan’s tribute, reproduced by CinemaBlend, praised Satterley as a husband and friend as well as a performer. He highlighted his wrestling knowledge, athleticism, professionalism, consistency and dedication to the sport, which had taken him around the world.

Sheamus recalled first seeing him wrestle in 2005. ‘I’d never seen anything like him. He truly defied gravity,’ he wrote, according to CinemaBlend. His message also described Satterley as humble, a pleasure to be around and loved by people in the locker room.

PAC wrestled at All Out on September 26

Satterley had competed at AEW All Out on September 26. AEW’s official results record that PAC challenged Andrade El Ídolo for the AEW National Championship in the opening main-card match and lost. Andrade countered PAC’s Brutalizer submission into a pin to retain the championship.

Powell wrote that he noticed nothing unusual in PAC’s match or his later appearance during Will Ospreay versus Jon Moxley. That was an observation of his performance, not a medical assessment. It does not establish what caused his death.

What is known about PAC’s cause of death

AEW’s announcement gave no cause of death or account of the circumstances. A September 29 PWTorch report, citing the Daily Herald, subsequently reported that a passerby found Satterley alone in a rental car in Des Plaines, Illinois, and called 911.

According to that secondary account, a spokesperson said there were no indications of foul play or trauma and the death did not appear suspicious. PWTorch reported that an autopsy took place on September 28, but the official cause remained pending. The report supplied no date for a final finding.
