Red carpet and $10M in prize money at stake make track look different ahead of Ultimate Championship

It’s a track meet with a red carpet, its own anthem and, most importantly, lots and lots of money. The Ultimate Championship, a best-of-the-best track meet to close out the season, opens Friday. Signs that it will be different began with the red-carpet ceremony for the athletes on the eve of the meet. Olympic champion pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, a part-time song writer, penned an anthem that he’ll sing at the closing.

Noah Lyles, not competing because of injury, will instead act as the event’s master of ceremonies.
