Richard Carapaz has signed a three-year deal with NSN Cycling Team, Reuters reported on 17 October. ProCyclingUK says the Ecuadorian will move from EF Education-EasyPost at the end of the 2026 season and race for NSN through 2029, giving the team a former Grand Tour winner for its next three seasons.

The move brings Carapaz’s time at EF to an end a year before his contract was due to expire, according to Reuters. ProCyclingUK says the NSN agreement covers the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons. Neither report establishes why his EF deal is ending early.

Carapaz’s 2026 Tour de France form

Carapaz, 33, won two stages at this year’s Tour de France and finished eighth overall, Reuters reported. ProCyclingUK says he also won the mountains classification, taking the polka-dot jersey after his victory on Alpe d’Huez. The results show the stage-winning and climbing form he brings to NSN as it plans its Grand Tour campaigns.

ProCyclingUK reported that Carapaz finished second at the Clásica San Sebastián the following weekend, behind Remco Evenepoel. It said the pair had pulled clear on the Murgil climb before Evenepoel won their sprint. That result added a major one-day finish to Carapaz’s two Tour stage wins this summer.

What Carapaz brings to NSN

Carapaz won the 2019 Giro d’Italia and took Olympic road race gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021, Reuters reported. ProCyclingUK says he was the first Ecuadorian to win a Grand Tour and has also reached the podium at both the Tour de France and Vuelta a España. He joined EF for the 2023 season after riding for Movistar and INEOS Grenadiers.

In a statement quoted by Reuters, Carapaz said joining NSN reminded him of the excitement he felt when he signed his first professional contract. He said conversations with the team’s performance staff showed a shared desire to improve and pursue major results. NSN was formerly known as Israel–Premier Tech.

ProCyclingUK has also reported moves to NSN for Santiago Buitrago and Lennert Van Eetvelt. With all three riders capable of targeting mountain stages and strong overall finishes, the team will have several options for its stage-race plans. Carapaz is the only one of the three with a Grand Tour victory and Olympic title.
