Tiger Shroff firing case: Three suspects held in police custody until October 31
A Mumbai court granted police more time to question three accused after prosecutors cited unrecovered weapons and phones they said had been destroyed.
A Mumbai court remanded three people accused in the October 18 shooting at actor Tiger Shroff鈥檚 car in Juhu to police custody until October 31, The Times of India reported on October 21. Prosecutors said the weapons had not been recovered and sought more time to investigate the alleged conspiracy. Shroff escaped injury in the shooting, but his driver was hurt.
The order follows earlier developments in the case: three suspects were detained in Kota, and the Mumbai Crime Branch took over the investigation.
Why prosecutors sought more custody
The three accused before the 37th Metropolitan Magistrate Court were Rehan Ansari, Phoolsingh and Rithik Mahtoo, also known as Roshan, according to The Times of India. Prosecutors told the court that phones allegedly used in the offence had been destroyed. They said further questioning was needed to examine the disposal of the phones, the financial aspects of the case and the wider alleged conspiracy.
Defence lawyer Ajinkya Mirgal, appearing for Ansari, opposed further police custody. He argued that police had already brought the accused from Kota on transit remand and had made other arrests, and asked for magisterial custody instead. The court granted the police request until October 31, The Times of India reported.
Separate arrests over alleged firearm transport
The Times of India reported that police told the court five more people had been arrested in Haryana and Delhi and were being brought to Mumbai. Separately, The Hindu reported that Delhi Police鈥檚 Special Cell arrested four people on October 20 over alleged roles in bringing a firearm to Mumbai and helping coordinate the operation. It was not clear whether the two reported groups overlap; the counts should not be added together.
The Hindu identified the four as Kunal, Sumit, Radha and Babita. According to the Special Cell account it reported, Kunal allegedly travelled to Amritsar to collect a pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition, while Radha allegedly carried the pistol by train to Mumbai. The police account did not establish whether that pistol was used in the shooting.
Maharashtra police subsequently formally arrested the four after a court allowed their application, The Hindu reported. The court also granted a three-day transit remand for investigators to take them to Mumbai. The alleged attempt to arrange an escape for the shooters has not been shown to have succeeded.
