United Airlines adds Starlink flight tracker as Wi-Fi reaches nearly half its departures

Passengers can check a flight’s expected Starlink availability before departure, though the answer can change if United switches aircraft.

United Airlines passengers can check whether a flight is expected to offer Starlink Wi-Fi using a flight tracker reported on October 15. The tool shows availability ahead of departure and can update travelers if an aircraft change affects it. United says Starlink is available on nearly half of its daily departures.

How to check Starlink on a United flight

Travelers can enter a flight number and travel date in the tracker within three days of departure, according to Engadget. The tool can display updates, including last-minute changes to the aircraft assigned to a flight. United also continues to tell passengers about Starlink availability through preflight emails and text notifications, the report says.

The advance window needs care: 9to5Mac says the tracker generally gives a reliable answer only within 48 hours of departure. Earlier checks show a likelihood based on recent flights on the same route. An aircraft swap can still change availability before departure.

Engadget says the tracker also lets users explore Starlink coverage by hub and aircraft type, including regional jets, narrowbody aircraft and widebody aircraft. Its hub view includes Chicago, Newark, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston and Denver. Those views show how the rollout varies across United’s network; travelers checking a particular trip can use its flight number and date.

How far United’s Starlink rollout has reached

Engadget reports that United has 635 Starlink-equipped mainline and United Express aircraft. Separately, 9to5Mac says more than 250,000 customers fly on equipped aircraft on an average day, across more than 2,500 flights. It puts installation coverage at 37% of mainline long-distance aircraft and 68% of United Express regional jets, citing United’s figures.

United began introducing Starlink Wi-Fi on flights in early 2025, 9to5Mac reports. Engadget says the airline announced its Starlink partnership in September 2024 and began testing the service in January 2025. The tracker gives passengers a way to check an individual flight while installation continues across the fleet.

Both reports say United is installing Starlink on about 20 aircraft a week and aims to finish installations by the end of 2027. Engadget also identifies Emirates, Qatar Airways, WestJet, SAS, Alaska Airlines and Air France as airlines offering Starlink internet.
