Lucas Raymond scored the shootout winner and recorded two assists in regulation as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 on Monday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Oct. 26, 2026.

The win marked rookie goaltender Michal Postava's first NHL start. Postava made 25 saves in regulation and overtime, then stopped Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the shootout to secure the victory.

Detroit's regulation goals came from Viktor Arvidsson, Emmitt Finnie and Dylan Larkin. Arvidsson scored on the power play 8:35 into the second period, with Alex DeBrincat picking up an assist for his 13th point of the season.

Larkin tied the game with 1:17 left in the third period and Postava pulled, shovelling in a bouncing puck for his second goal of the season to force overtime.

In overtime, Postava preserved the shootout chance with a point-blank stop at the top of the crease with just under seven seconds remaining.

Raymond scored Detroit's only shootout goal, his second shootout winner of the road trip, sealing the victory.

Edmonton's goals came from Vasily Podkolzin, Isaac Howard and Colton Dach. Howard's goal, from the left faceoff circle, was his first of the season; he won the Hobey Baker Award in 2025 with Michigan State.

Edmonton goalie Tristan Jarry made 26 saves. The Oilers fell to 8-2-2 and have lost two straight; they also lost forward Zach Hyman to what looked to be a concussion.

Connor McDavid extended his season-opening points streak to 12 games, with 34 points. He set a new Oilers record for most points before Nov. 1 and matched the longest season-opening assist streak in NHL history, equalling Sebastian Aho, Ken Linseman and Wayne Gretzky.

Postava, 24, is an undrafted Czech goalie playing only his second NHL game. He replaced John Gibson in the third period of a 5-2 win over Vancouver the previous Thursday.

The Red Wings improved to 5-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 on their four-game road trip. Detroit next host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, while Edmonton host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

The game was Mike Babcock's first against Detroit since his five-season stint as Toronto Maple Leafs coach ended in 2019. He is in his first year coaching the Oilers.
