Singapore Airlines unveiled a cabin overhaul costing more than S$2 billion in Singapore on Friday, 6 November, and plans to introduce the new interiors from the second half of 2027. The investment is about NZ$2.7 billion, according to nzherald.co.nz, which reported the announcement as the airline presses ahead with premium upgrades despite rising fuel costs.

The planned rollout covers 41 retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, as well as the airline’s new Boeing 777-9 fleet, CNA Lifestyle reported. The 777-9 is due to receive new First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins. The A350s are scheduled for new Business Class seats; the ultra-long-range A350-900 variant is also planned to receive First Class suites.

New suites and more private business class seats

The First Class suites planned for the 777-9 and A350-900ULR will have sliding doors. Two centre suites can be configured together as a double bed, with companion dining, according to CNA. Business Class is also being redesigned with sliding privacy doors. NZ Herald described the new First Class suites as having queen-size beds and companion dining.

The airline said it expects to start the phased introduction in the second half of 2027. The 777-9 seats have been certified, but the aircraft itself has not; seats for the relevant A350 have yet to be certified, NZ Herald reported. Singapore Airlines has not disclosed which routes will receive the new products.

Why Singapore Airlines is investing in premium travel

Chief commercial officer Lee Lik Hsin told NZ Herald that the airline could not choose to underinvest during difficult periods. He said premium passenger experience remained a priority across business cycles, and that corporate travel demand had recovered faster than many expected. Business and First Class load factors remained high, he said.

Lik Hsin also said Singapore Airlines had seen more non-corporate demand for premium seats, including parents booking business-class travel for students going to college. More than 5,000 frequent flyers, staff and industry experts advised on the new designs, the airline said. NZ Herald reported that the airline had recently retrofitted its A380s and did not expect an extensive interior overhaul for that aircraft; it said Auckland and Christchurch passengers on A380 services would see no change.
