Talking Heads have announced a book made with all four members, Talking Heads: New Feeling, due on May 18, 2027. Timed to the 50th anniversary of their debut album, it will bring handwritten lyrics, artwork and private photographs from the band’s archive to readers, according to Rolling Stone and Happy Mag.

David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison each contributed an original essay, Happy Mag reported. The four appeared together in a video for publisher Abrams Books to discuss the project, according to Rolling Stone. Their collaboration on the book does not signal a return to making music together.

What Talking Heads: New Feeling will contain

Harrison said the group pulled out handwritten lyrics, original album sketches and private photographs for the book, some of which had not left its archive in more than 40 years, Rolling Stone reported. The publisher’s listing, as described by Rolling Stone, names handwritten lyrics for “Psycho Killer” and “Life During Wartime” among its contents.

Happy Mag reported that the book will also include annotated concert playlists, album-cover sketches and storyboards from True Stories and Stop Making Sense. It named Debbie Harry, Lorde, Questlove and Jeff Bridges among the musicians and writers contributing essays, alongside personal, live and studio photographs spanning the band’s career.

How the book traces the band’s history

Frantz described the book as the story of three art students who met at the Rhode Island School of Design and reached New York’s CBGB, a centre of the city’s 1970s punk and emerging new-wave scene, Rolling Stone reported. The book follows the band through the 2023 re-release of its concert film Stop Making Sense.

That film’s re-release brought the four members to public events together in 2023 and 2024, according to Rolling Stone. The outlet also reported that they took part in a September interview moderated by Este Haim for the launch of Talking Heads Radio. New Feeling is a further joint project centred on the band’s history and archive.
