Tech Mahindra announced a partnership with AI coding platform SpaceXSI on Thursday, 22 October, to help business customers modernise older applications and develop software faster. The Indian IT services firm plans to bring SpaceXSI’s Grok Build coding agent into its engineering services, giving clients another route to AI-assisted software development.

How Tech Mahindra plans to use Grok Build

Tech Mahindra said it will combine its engineering, enterprise transformation and AI consulting work with SpaceXSI’s development platform. According to PTI, the company plans to use Grok Build expertise in its application modernisation and engineering transformation services. The proposed work covers the software development lifecycle, from updating existing applications to delivering new code.

The companies also plan joint customer engagements, industry-specific solutions, sales initiatives and training programmes, PTI reported. Tech Mahindra said the offering is designed for enterprise environments where governance, security and compliance are requirements. It has described faster delivery, better developer productivity and improved code quality as aims of the collaboration; neither company has announced measured results from it.

Which business customers are targeted

Reuters identified technology, telecommunications, banking and financial services as target sectors. PTI also listed manufacturing, healthcare and retail among the industries the companies intend to serve. Those plans put the partnership in areas where organisations may need to update longstanding software while maintaining controls over how new code is developed and deployed.

Sumit Kumar Popli, Tech Mahindra’s president for its technology, media and entertainment business, said the company aims to help customers adopt AI-powered software engineering at enterprise scale while maintaining the governance, security and quality required for mission-critical applications. His statement describes the intended approach, rather than a completed customer deployment.

Reuters reported that Tech Mahindra has similar agreements involving Google Gemini and Microsoft, and described this as the first such collaboration between a major Indian IT services company and SpaceX’s AI division. Grok Build was announced in May, according to the company website as cited by PTI. The companies said their next steps include joint customer work and industry-specific offerings, but did not give a rollout timetable or financial terms.
