Prime Video confirmed on October 21 that Esther McGregor will play Violet Sorrengail and Emilio Sakraya will play Xaden Riorson in its television adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing. The casting puts names to the central roles in the planned series, though the streamer has not announced a premiere date.

The confirmation follows an October 15 casting report by Deadline, according to Business Insider. Collider reported that the announcement came after a worldwide search for the two actors. The earlier report named the performers; Prime Video’s confirmation now makes their casting official.

Who will play Violet and Xaden

McGregor, 24, has appeared in Babygirl and the Amazon adaptation We Were Liars, Business Insider reported. Sakraya, 30, is a German actor whose credits include Rheingold and Netflix’s Warrior Nun. The roles place both performers at the centre of an adaptation built around Violet and Xaden’s relationship.

Author Rebecca Yarros thanked the producing and casting team for its thorough worldwide search, according to Collider. Lisa Joy, who will direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer, described McGregor and Sakraya as ‘brilliant, magnetic actors,’ the outlet reported. Yarros is also an executive producer on the series.

Business Insider reported that McGregor shared Amazon’s casting post on Instagram with the words ‘So beyond excited. Honored. Thrilled.’ Sakraya shared the post with a quotation from Iron Flame, the second book in Yarros’ series: ‘My house. My chair. My Woman.’ Their posts followed the streamer’s public confirmation of the roles.

Where the Prime Video series stands

Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society began developing Fourth Wing for television in 2023, Business Insider reported. Prime Video ordered the project to series at Amazon’s May 11, 2026 Upfront presentation. Meredith Averill is set to serve as showrunner, following Moira Walley-Beckett’s departure from the project in 2025.

Collider reported that the series is planned for exclusive streaming on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The casting gives viewers the first confirmed performers for the story’s two lead characters, but Prime Video has not said when the show will premiere or when filming will begin.
